Gov. Culver: Announces $65 million in state highway projects 4/2/2009 OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Governor Chet Culver « Lt. Governor Patty Judge FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 2, 2009 Contact: Dena Gray-Fisher, Iowa DOT 515-239-1922 dena.grayfisher@dot.iowa.gov Troy Price, Governor’s Office 515-281-0173 troy.price@iowa.gov GOVERNOR CULVER ANNOUNCES $65 MILLION IN STATE HIGHWAY PROJECTS Projects funded with Federal recovery dollars DES MOINES– Today, Governor Chet Culver announced the awarding of three additional state highway projects valued at $62.3 million, which are all slated to begin construction this season. These projects are being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 and were included in the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) bid letting held Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Governor Culver said, “These shovel-ready projects will create good jobs for Iowans while making lasting improvements to our state’s infrastructure. As Governor, I am committed to seeing these funds utilized quickly to put Iowans back to work. And when combined with our proposed IJOBS program, these federal dollars will help us rebuild our state while rebuilding our economy.” Iowa will receive approximately $358 million for state and local highway and bridge projects through ARRA. These projects demonstrate the Governor’s commitment to quickly direct ARRA funding to important infrastructure projects. All of the funding for Iowa DOT highway projects, and much of it targeted for local highway projects, will be at work this construction season. With the federal ARRA funds, regular state and federal highway funds, and carry-over work from the 2008 construction season, Iowa will set an all-time record for highway and bridge spending in 2009. Iowa DOT Director Nancy Richardson said, “This is about putting the ARRA funding to work for the people of Iowa by accelerating needed infrastructure projects, providing thousands of jobs, and improving commerce, safety and quality of life. As projects are completed, Iowans will be able to see noticeable differences in our transportation systems statewide, and reap the positive impacts that this funding has on our state.” Below is a list of the recently awarded highway projects.
