Victory for Taxpayers Amidst Irresponsible Spending and Debt

MUSCATINE, IA-The Iowa Legislature has come to a close for 2009 with no action on the bill to repeal Federal Deductibility which would have forced Iowans to pay a tax on a tax.

Ed Failor, Jr., President of Iowans for Tax Relief, made the following statement, "The voices of everyday Iowans were heard loud and clear and the Legislature showed the common sense to not make Iowans pay a tax on a tax by eliminating federal deductibility. I am tremendously thankful to our members and all Iowans who took action in the legislative process by showing up at the Capitol, making phone calls, sending emails, and talking to their friends and neighbors. This incredible group effort worked to protect Iowans from paying a tax on a tax for one more year!

Even as one massive tax increase was defeated, the budget approved today is THE largest budget in Iowa history; a whopping $6.258 billion budget package and a $765 million borrowing package was sent to Governor Culver's desk for his signature. When every family budget is looking for ways to be more fiscally responsible, State Government just blew the budget. Contrary to what some Legislators believe; Iowa does not have a revenue problem, it has a massive spending problem."
