U.S. Rep. Latham: Floor speech honors Norman Borlaug, House passes resolution recognizing borlaug's life 10/1/2009 Contact: Fred Love 202-225-5476 fred.love@mail.house.gov WASHINGTON, DC – Iowa Congressman Tom Latham gave a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday in support of H. Res. 739, honoring the life of Dr. Norman Borlaug. "His innovative leadership in plant breeding and agriculture production gave birth to what we know today as the ‘Green Revolution’ and he’s credited with saving over a billion — that’s with a ‘b’ — a billion lives from starvation,” Congressman Latham said of Borlaug during his remarks. Borlaug, a native of Cresco, died on Sept. 12 at the age of 95. -30- |
