Erik Helland: Announces Bid for the Iowa House 8/13/2007 Contact: Katie Koberg (515) 971-4571 GRIMES, IOWA– Erik Helland, a life-long resident of House District 69, will seek election to the Iowa House in District 69 as a Republican. The Primary Election is Tuesday, June 3, 2008 and strong support for his election was shown by collecting over 400 signatures of support; this is well beyond the 50 signatures required to qualify as an official candidate with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office. House District 69 covers the cities of Grimes, Johnston, Polk City, Saylorville, Alleman, Elkhart and part of Sheldahl in Polk County. Helland said, “I will work to better reflect your interests and values. I have spent my life in this district as the seventh-generation Helland to live in this district and work on the family farm; I am running to more accurately represent our traditional republican values. I believe together we can; limit the tax burden on families, grow businesses through lower taxation and support our commitment to the moral values that keep our families strong.” Helland continued, “I have confidence that you know your paycheck is best spent, saved and invested by you not collected by government. That is why I support the People’s Right to Vote Amendment to give the people of Iowa the final say on major tax increases.” Jeffrey Boeyink, President of Iowans for Tax Relief, said, “On behalf of Iowans for Tax Relief – PAC, the political action arm of Iowans for Tax Relief and our more than 52,000 members, I am proud to announce our strong endorsement of Erik Helland and our commitment to do everything in our power to elect him to the Iowa House of Representatives. Our mission is to identify and support candidates for the Iowa Legislature who are truly committed to the concept of limited government, to the belief that big government and high taxes hurt our economy and stifle our ability to create new jobs, and to the principle that resources are best left with the families who earn them, rather than the government that would like to redistribute them. I have known Erik, personally, for many years. He is a young man of exceptional character and possesses an incredible work ethic. He has knocked on thousands of doors for other candidates in the past, and now he gets the opportunity to knock on thousands of doors on his own behalf. Of this I am confident, no candidate will out work Erik Helland. And I mean no candidate. In a district that adds new young families to its number every day, Erik is a perfect fit and exactly the kind of representation the hard working taxpayers of this district need in the Iowa House of Representatives. We are proud to offer this early endorsement and we are confident Erik will be the next State Representative from House District 69.” Kim Lehman, President of the Iowa Right to Life Committee PAC said, “Erik Helland is an outstanding candidate that understands the value in protecting life. We appreciate his common sense approach to our issue. He is a man of good character with the experience needed to represent his area well. We are proud to endorse Erik Helland as the next State Representative from House District 69.” Erik Helland is finishing his law degree at Drake University; received his under-graduate degree from Drake University and a graduate of Ballard High School. Along with his Drake Law work and time on the family farm, Helland has worked with Iowa transportation companies, Iowa horse breeders, presidential and state house campaigns. Erik is married to Sandra Helland and they share a daughter, Wynter, who is in eighth grade. The Helland’s are members of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Grimes. Erik Helland looks forward to doorstep visits with the people in House District 69. If you have questions before he visits your door you may visit his web site at http://www.ErikHelland.com.
