Erik Helland: Announces Bid for the Iowa House

GRIMES, IOWA– Erik Helland, a life-long resident of House District 69, will seek election to the Iowa House in District 69 as a Republican.  The Primary Election is Tuesday, June 3, 2008 and strong support for his election was shown by collecting over 400 signatures of support; this is well beyond the 50 signatures required to qualify as an official candidate with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office.

House District 69 covers the cities of Grimes, Johnston, Polk City, Saylorville, Alleman, Elkhart and part of Sheldahl in Polk County. 

Helland said, “I will work to better reflect your interests and values.  I have spent my life in this district as the seventh-generation Helland to live in this district and work on the family farm; I am running to more accurately represent our traditional republican values.  I believe together we can; limit the tax burden on families, grow businesses through lower taxation and support our commitment to the moral values that keep our families strong.”

Helland continued, “I have confidence that you know your paycheck is best spent, saved and invested by you not collected by government.  That is why I support the People’s Right to Vote Amendment to give the people of Iowa the final say on major tax increases.”

Erik Helland is finishing his law degree at Drake University; received his under-graduate degree from Drake University and a graduate of Ballard High School.  Along with his Drake Law work and time on the family farm, Helland has worked with Iowa transportation companies, Iowa horse breeders, presidential and state house campaigns.

Erik is married to Sandra Helland and they share a daughter, Wynter, who is in eighth grade.  The Helland’s are members of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Grimes.
