HARKIN ANNOUNCES $550,000 IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDING FOR SOUTHERN IOWA RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

WASHINGTON , D.C. — Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced rural development funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Southern Iowa Resources for Families, based in Creston. The agency was awarded a conditional commitment for a guaranteed loan of $550,000 to purchase and remodel a building for a new business office. Once renovated, the new facility will be used for three purposes: 1) as an office building for Southern Iowa Resources for Families, Inc., 2) a center for Adult Day Services provided by Southern Iowa Resources for Families, Inc., Midwest Opportunities, and Innovative Industries; and 3) a gymnasium to be used for a variety of Special Olympics, recreational and wellness activities.

Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

“Rural development funding continues to provide for Southern Iowa Resources for Families so that this agency can continue to serve Iowa children, families and seniors,” said Harkin. “Once renovated, this new building will provide a myriad of services to Union County, including a gym for Iowa’s Special Olympians. I congratulate Southern Iowa Resources for Families on this competitive funding and I look forward to the improvements it will generate.”

The funding was administered through the Community Facility Guaranteed Loan Program.
