GOVERNOR CULVER HITS THE ROAD FOR I-JOBS PLAN THIS WEEK

Tuesday’s travels take him to Northern Iowa, heads to Eastern Iowa on Wednesday

DES MOINES – Governor Culver will continue his push for job creation through infrastructure investment today with events in Nevada, Fort Dodge, Mason City and Charles City. Tomorrow, the Governor will travel to Eastern Iowa and hold events in Elkader, Waverly, and Palo. The events are part of the Culver/Judge “Shovel Ready” Tour to highlight the Governor and Lt. Governor’s I-JOBS Initiative, which would invest $750 million in Iowa’s infrastructure needs and put Iowans back to work.

“Last week, this tour began in our Capital City highlighting a transit project that could begin this year. There are projects like this in communities across our state,” said Governor Culver. “We can literally work our way out of this recession, and that work begins with the I-JOBS plan. I look forward to meeting with community leaders and concerned citizens over the coming days and weeks, and hearing about our infrastructure needs in Iowa. With the help of legislative leaders and all Iowans, we can make this plan a reality, invest in communities large and small, and put thousands of Iowans back to work.”

Last week, Governor Chet Culver announced his I-JOBS initiative. The $750 million initiative is designed to create jobs, strengthen the economy, and address unmet infrastructure needs across the state. The plan would be funded with existing state gaming revenue and require no increase in taxes.

The Governor will make additional stops in Eastern Iowa on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, the Lt. Governor will make stops in Western Iowa. Those events will be announced shortly.
