Iowa GOP: Chairman Strawn congratulates Republican candidate in House District 33 10/30/2009 Danielle Plogmann 319.290.4185 Cedar Rapids, IA – Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn tonight issued the following statement following the Party’s special nominating convention in Cedar Rapids: “Iowa Republicans congratulate Joshua Thurston on earning the GOP nomination in House District 33. While this is an extremely challenging district for Republicans, it is very encouraging to see a quality individual like Josh getting involved to try and change the direction of his community and our state.” Thurston, 27, works at Cargill West in Cedar Rapids and is a member of Teamsters Local 238. He joined the Army in February 2002 and served in Iraq from March 2004 to April 2005. He and his wife, Stephanie, live in Cedar Rapids and have two children. The special election to replace State Representative Dick Taylor (D- Cedar Rapids) is Tuesday, Nov. 24. # # # |
