U.S. Rep. Latham: Latham floor speech on health care costs 11/4/2009 Contact: Fred Love 202-225-5476 fred.love@mail.house.gov WASHINGTON, DC – Iowa Congressman Tom Latham addressed the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday to call for health care reform that reduces costs for American families. Congressman Latham noted the demand among the American people for health care reform that makes coverage more affordable. He took aim at a health care bill unveiled last week by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which slashes Medicare Advantage funding and pins small businesses with new taxes and mandates. "This isn't what was advertised. This isn't what people want," Congressman Latham said during his speech. "They don't want the government coming in and taking over their health insurance, changing their policies for them without their permission." Congressman Latham has introduced his own legislation, the "Health Care Security for All Americans Act of 2009," which protects Medicare and allows small businesses to pool together to negotiate lower premiums for employees.
