Health Care Special Provisions Appalling

(Urbandale, IA) State Senator Brad Zaun calls upon Rep. Leonard Boswell (D) to act immediately to defend Iowa from the special interest provisions carved out by the cloakroom antics of Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson (D) and the Democrat leadership of the Senate during the recent health care legislation debate.

Particularly appalling was the language in the bill forcing the balance of the nation to pay for the special Medicaid provision afforded to the state of Nebraska. The proposed legislation forces other states to pay for Nebraska’s Medicaid obligations forever.

Zaun stated, “I am angry and appalled at the corrupt nature of this irresponsible legislation. This is not about bi-partisan leadership...this is about unilateral self-interest and greed.” Zaun went on to say, “Simply put, this is another example of what’s wrong with Washington and a perfect example of what I will change when elected to serve as the Representative from the 3rd District of Iowa.”

Zaun concluded, “The time to restore trust has come because Iowans deserve something better this Christmas than Congressman Boswell and his party’s lump of coal.”

Zaun, a former city council member and mayor of Urbandale, represents the northwest part of Des Moines and all of Urbandale in his second term as a State Senator in the Iowa Legislature. Zaun is a Vice President of R&R Realty. Previously, Zaun worked for a John Deere dealership, then owned a hardware store in Urbandale for 18 years and served as President of the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce. Zaun is married and has five children.
