RPI: Congressman Leonard Boswell... Charlie Rangel's $50,000 man 3/1/2010 Republican Party of Iowa FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Contact: Danielle Plogmann March 1, 2010 319.290.4185 Congressman Leonard Boswell… Charlie Rangel’s $50,000 Man Iowa GOP: Time for Boswell to stand up to Pelosi and stand for honest government DES MOINES – The Republican Party of Iowa today demanded that Congressman Leonard Boswell (D-IA) return nearly $50,000 in campaign cash from ethically-plagued House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel (D-NY). The executive director of the state party also said Boswell should join his House Democrat colleagues who are calling on Rangel to relinquish his chairmanship of the powerful tax-writing committee. Ways and Means Chairman Rangel was recently admonished by a congressional ethics committee for taking lavish Caribbean trips sponsored by powerful corporate interests. “Congressman Boswell wouldn’t break ranks with Nancy Pelosi and his leadership on a federal takeover of health care, a cap-and-trade energy tax, or the failed stimulus, so here is a chance for him to actually show leadership, stand up to Nancy Pelosi, and make a stand for honest government,” said Iowa GOP Executive Director Jim Anderson, who noted that Boswell has received at least $46,000 from Rangel since 1998 ($13,000 from Rangel’s campaign and $33,000 from Rangel’s National Leadership PAC). This is not the first time Boswell has accepted what turned out to be tainted money. He also accepted money from Phyllis Stevens, who stands accused of embezzling millions from Aviva USA. “There’s a dirty money trail running directly to Leonard Boswell’s campaign account. Iowans are waiting to see, will Boswell demand integrity from his party leaders, or will he keep quiet while waiting for the next campaign contribution to come his way? If he won’t do the right thing, I’m confident voters will, come this November’s election,” concluded Anderson. |
