Boettger Campaign: Boettger files for re-election to Iowa Senate District 29 3/10/2010 Contact: Sen. Nancy Boettger, (515) 281-3371 HARLAN – State Senator Nancy Boettger (R-Harlan) officially filed nomination petitions with the Iowa Secretary of State to run for re-election to the Iowa Senate this November. Boettger, first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1994, represents Senate District 29 which includes all of Shelby, Audubon, Guthrie, Adair and Cass counties and the northeastern third of Pottawattamie County. Now the longest serving Republican in the Iowa Senate, Boettger also serves in leadership as an Assistant Republican Leader. “It is an honor everyday to serve the people of Iowa in the State Senate and in the coming weeks and months, I will again be asking my constituents for their support so together we can continue to make Iowa a better place for all,” said Boettger, who serves as Ranking Member on the Senate Education Committee. “With my years of experience and leadership, my constituents need to know that they have a voice at the table as we work toward finding positive solutions to the many challenges facing our state.” Given the severe budget deficits caused by too much spending, a growing unemployment rate not seen since the early years of the Farm Crisis a generation ago and the threat of higher property taxes, Boettger says Iowans want their legislators to focus on keeping government within its means as well as find solutions to make it easier for private sector jobs to be created and keep taxes low. “My focus has and will continue to be on solutions that will lead to a climate where good paying private sector jobs can be created in every community in every county,” said Boettger. “Iowans want good private sector jobs, they want their government to quit the out-of-control spending that has given us a one billion dollar deficit and they are worried about property tax increases as a result of three years of fiscal irresponsibility. I will continue to look out for the interests of my constituents and all Iowans as we work to grow this state and give our children and grandchildren the same opportunities that so many of us have enjoyed here in Iowa,” she added. Boettger has a B.S. in Sociology from Iowa State University and a B.A. in Education from Buena Vista University. She has served on the Board of Directors of American Baptist homes of the Midwest. She currently is on the board of the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy and serves on the Midwest Higher Education Commission, the Education Commission of the States and the Iowa Prayer Breakfast board. She’s a member of the Harlan First Baptist Church and P.E.O. Boettger has been active in the Council of State Governments, the American Legislative Exchange Council and the National Foundation for Women Legislators. A former educator, Senator Boettger farms with her husband Dave and together they operate a bed and breakfast. The Boettgers reside near Harlan and have four married children and ten grandchildren. “I am grateful for the strong support I have received in the past and I will continue to work hard to earn the trust and support of my constituents in the upcoming election,” said Boettger. “There is so much at stake and I know that I can continue to make a difference for my constituents and our communities as we work together to lead Iowa in a new and optimistic direction,” she concluded. -30- |
