Rees campaign: Tea Party scorecard is "false and misleading" 6/3/2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 3, 2010 Contact: Deann Cook 515.971.5286 (West Des Moines) – Mark Rees, candidate in the 3rd District Republican Primary for Congress, has released the following response to false and misleading statements about his campaign in the Des Moines Tea Party’s candidate scorecard: “Whoever wrote the Des Moines Tea Party’s scorecard has obviously never read the issues page of my website. I have never been a, “big government supporter,” nor have I ever favored, “the tax and spend liberal philosophy,” as the scorecard suggests. “I was the first candidate in this Primary to issue a term limit pledge; the first candidate to endorse a balanced budget amendment and mandatory debt reduction; and am the only candidate to propose an immediate federal hiring freeze. I have never supported the new healthcare bill and have called for a comprehensive evaluation of all entitlement programs with the goal of reducing program costs by at least 20% in three years. “I could go on and on, but for those who do their homework, this information has been on my website since last December. “As I have said before, I strongly agree with the Tea Party’s rejection of bloated government, reckless spending, and unsound fiscal policies. It is unfortunate, however, that their leadership would compromise the group’s credibility with their ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ philosophy.” #### |
