U.S. Rep. Boswell: Continues to stand up for troops and veterans 7/29/2010 For Immediate Release July 28, 2010 Contact: Jane Slusark, 202-225-3806 Jane.Slusark@mail.house.gov Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell voted to support our troops and veterans by ensuring critical funding for veterans’ health services and the construction of key facilities for training and housing our military when the House passed H.R. 5822, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. “It is important that we remember there are two wars still going on that put American lives on the line, and we must make sure that those troops are taken care of both in combat and when they return home,” said Boswell, a 20-year military veteran. “With more than 3,500 Iowa Guard troops heading to Afghanistan, I will continue to fight for our men and women in uniform to receive the best training, care, and veteran services in exchange for their courageous service.” Boswell also secured funding for two important projects to help Iowa’s troops in the 3rd District. The Iowa Army National Guard will receive $800,000 under H.R. 5822 for its regional training institute at Camp Dodge in Johnston. The Iowa Air National Guard will receive $4.75 million for its Corrosion Control Hangar. During the 111th Congress, Boswell has provided a 70 percent increase in funding for veterans’ health care and benefits, over 10,000 new claims processors to reduce VA case backlogs, 3,389 new doctors and 14,316 new nurses, 145 new community-based vet outpatient clinics, and 92 new vet centers. ### |
