Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell voted with his colleagues on the House Committee on Agriculture to send H.R. 3519, the Veterinary Services Investment Act, to the House floor for a vote. This legislation creates grants to address large-animal veterinary shortages in rural areas of Iowa and the entire country. “Not only do these rural communities need large-animal veterinarians to advise them on their farms, but the entire country needs them to ensure that the food we eat is raised appropriately and safe,” said Boswell, a senior Member of the House Agriculture Committee. “With great veterinarians graduating from Iowa State University, this legislation will provide them with some tools to establish mobile or permanent practices in underserved areas of the state.” Boswell is an original co-sponsor and lead Democrat of H.R. 3519 which would authorize grants that could be used for veterinarian and veterinary technician recruitment; expanding and establishing veterinary practices in high-need areas; establishing mobile/portable clinics and tele-vet services; and accredited veterinary education programs. ###
