IowaPolitics.com: Nussle Outpaces the Pack in Fundraising 5/24/2006 By Chris Dorsey While Democrats have been spending their money on television advertising, Republican gubernatorial candidate Congressman Jim Nussle has not had to spend lavishly to claim a primary victory. Nussle's early opponent, Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats, joined him as a running mate earlier this year. The congressman from Manchester bolsters the most money in the bank as of Friday's campaign finance reporting deadline. Nussle has $1.5 million cash on hand. Democratic gubernatorial candidates Michael Blouin reported having $483,725 on Friday. Chet Culver reported $388,755 while Ed Fallon has $63,000. Democratic Agriculture Secretary candidate Dusky Terry reported having $63,266 on hand. His Democratic primary opponent Denise O'Brien has $11,202 cash on hand after the last reporting period. In that race's Republican primary, Mark Leonard has raised more than fellow candidate Bill Northey. Leonard reported $23,256 cash on hand, and Northey reported having $44,290 in cash. Democrat Michael Mauro has significantly outpaced his Republican counterparts in the secretary of state race. The Polk County auditor has $96,204 cash on hand, while Republicans Chuck Allison and Robert Dopf reported $8,044 and $7,206, respectively. |
