Washington, DC - Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1045, a bill introduced by Congressman Leonard Boswell, which designates the Federal building in Des Moines as the Neal Smith Federal Building.  The bill passed by voice vote.  The bill now awaits Senate action.

Boswell, who managed the bill on the House floor said, "Neal Smith is one of Iowa's most respected and distinguished elected officials. His interests while in Congress were very varied but he especially focused on agriculture, small business and the environment, and became a champion for those issues."

"We're almost home," added Boswell.  "I'm thrilled that the House took such quick action on the bill, and I will be talking to our Iowan Senators encouraging them to move the bill in the Senate.  Naming the Federal building in Des Moines is an honor Neal Smith he deserves."

Representing the 4th District of Iowa, Neal Smith served thirty six years in Congress, the longest serving Iowan to serve in the House of Representatives.
