HARKIN ANNOUNCES OVER $100,000 IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS COMING TO IOWA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that a total of $103,645 will be coming for four rural development projects in Iowa. The grants and loans come through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Community Facility Program. Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

“From improving schools to purchasing emergency equipment, funding such as this allows Iowa’s rural communities to continue to thrive,” said Harkin. “This money will enhance the safety and quality of life for residents of our smaller communities. I congratulate all recipients on receiving this competitive funding and I look forward to the improvements it will generate.”

The projects are as follows:

The City of Holstein in Ida County will receive a guaranteed loan of $60,750 and a grant of $14,000 to purchase a front-end loader and accessories that will be used in providing essential public works and emergency services.

The City of Shenandoah in Page County will receive a grant of $10,000 to assist in covering the additional cost of purchasing and installing its new emergency warning siren system. The new system consists of four new sires that will provide improved emergency notification to the entire community.

The City of Toronto in Clinton County will receive a grant of $8,995 to assist with the purchase of an outdoor warning siren.

Pomeroy Palmer Community School in Calhoun County will receive $9,900 to purchase childcare equipment.
